Personal Insurance

Life, TPD, trauma, income protection. Custom-designed to protect you and your loved ones, not over-insured or under-covered.

When personal insurance becomes critical

Most people know they probably need insurance, but they’re not sure what type, how much, or whether what they have through their super is actually enough.

You need to review your personal insurance if you’re in one of these situations:

  • You have a family who depends on your income and you’re not sure what would happen to them if you died, became disabled, or couldn’t work for months
  • You’ve got insurance through your super but you’ve never actually checked what it covers, what the limits are, or whether it would pay out in a real claim situation
  • You’ve had a major life change – got married, had kids, bought a house, started a business – and your insurance hasn’t been updated to match your new responsibilities
  • You’re paying for insurance but you’re not sure if you’re over-insured (wasting money) or under-insured (dangerously exposed if something goes wrong)
  • You’ve been diagnosed with a health condition or had an injury and you’re worried about whether you can still get insurance or if your existing cover will pay out

Personal insurance isn’t about covering every possible scenario or buying the most expensive policy. It’s about having the right amount of the right type of cover for your actual situation – enough to protect your family and lifestyle, but not so much you’re paying for cover you don’t need.

Types of insurance we help with

We’ll help you understand which types of insurance you need and structure them properly:

Life insurance

Pays a lump sum to your family if you die. This covers funeral costs, pays off debts like mortgages, replaces lost income, and ensures your family can maintain their lifestyle without your income. Critical if anyone depends on you financially.

Total and permanent disability

Pays a lump sum if you become permanently disabled and can never work again. This covers medical costs, home modifications, debt repayment, and replaces the income you’ll never earn. Often bundled with life insurance but needs a separate assessment.

Trauma insurance

Pays a lump sum if you’re diagnosed with a serious illness like cancer, heart attack, or stroke. Unlike TPD, you don’t need to be permanently disabled – just diagnosed. This covers treatment costs, time off work, and financial stress during recovery.

Income protection

Pays up to 75% of your income if you can’t work due to illness or injury. This is ongoing monthly payments (not a lump sum) that replace your salary while you recover. Critical if you have living expenses, debts, or a family to support and can’t afford to go months without income.

Insurance within super review

Most people have basic life and TPD insurance through their super fund, but it’s often inadequate or poorly structured. We’ll review what you have, identify gaps, and determine whether you need additional cover or if you’re paying for unnecessary duplicate policies.

Claims support

If you need to make a claim, we’ll help you navigate the process, gather required documentation, liaise with the insurer, and make sure you get what you’re entitled to. Insurance claims can be complicated and stressful – we’ll handle it for you.

How we structure your insurance

Assess your actual needs

We’ll look at your income, debts, family situation, lifestyle, and financial obligations to work out what would happen if you died, became disabled, or couldn’t work. This tells us how much cover you actually need – not what an insurance company wants to sell you.

Review existing cover

We’ll review any insurance you already have through super, previous jobs, or direct policies. Most people have some cover but don’t know what it is, what it covers, or whether it’s enough. We’ll identify what’s working and what’s not.

Recommend the right structure

We’ll recommend what types of insurance you need, how much cover, and whether it should be inside super (tax-deductible premiums) or outside super (better for some situations). You’ll understand exactly why we’re recommending what we’re recommending – no jargon, no overselling.

Implement and maintain

We’ll handle the applications, medical assessments, and paperwork to get your insurance in place. Then we’ll review it regularly – as your income grows, debts change, or family situation evolves, your insurance needs to change with it. And if you ever need to claim, we’ll be there to help.

Real insurance situations we’ve handled

Here’s an example of how proper insurance planning has protected our clients.

Note: This is an illustrative example only. Insurance benefits are subject to policy terms and insurer assessment. Outcomes vary and shouldn’t be relied upon as financial advice.

Case study

A self-employed tradie had a heart attack at 48. He survived, but couldn’t work for six months while recovering.

His trauma insurance paid out $150,000 immediately after diagnosis—before he’d missed a single day of work. That money covered medical costs, kept the mortgage paid, supported his family, and gave him time to recover without financial stress.

Without it, they would have burned through savings, maxed out credit cards, and possibly lost the house.
